The following storage provisioning recommendations are provided to help you better work with private cloud configurations.
For additional details on the statistics related to these best practices, see Appendix A: Common Statistics.
Storage Provisioning Recommendations
- Do not over-provision more than 20% of the effective physical cluster capacity (see lbcli get cluster effectivePhysicalStorage in Appendix A: Common Statistics).
- Ensure that each node's free space exceeds the size of one drive, to prevent read-only mode in case of drive loss.
- Ensure that cluster capacity can withstand a single node failure or volumes will not rebuild to degraded.
- Optional: Keep a spare drive slot available to increase capacity if needed; otherwise, capacity can only be increased by adding nodes.
